RE: Honda US Sales surpass Dodge/Chrysler

How do you figure GM is #2?...they are still #1. It even says so in the article you hyper-linked to.

RE: I Track Tested a 2009 Ram...Not just for Dodge fans!

Over the last 50-60 years or so the big 3 have offered one innovation after another to make the PU truck what we know it as today. Toyota FINALLY after 40 years here made one right, Nissan has given up, and somehow you manage to assign them to an equal footing in the world of PU trucks. Interesting! You have got to be kidding right? Pickups have been the least changed vehicle segment there is....with very little "innovation" except in the last 15 years or so. You are making this WAY bigger than it really is, you're going back 40, 50, 60 years? Good grief, I am simply stating that with each new generation of each brand of truck, they out-do each other. If you can't see that, well then you are stuck back in time 40, 50, or 60 years (at least). Titan and Tundra ARE equals among domestic 3 1/2 ton trucks.....Ridgeline, not so much. Or....when you say "equal footing in the world of PU trucks", does that mean truck sales?

RE: New Dodge/Nissan Titan to have Hemi power

Yeah, I read that on a Nissan site. Though I'm a tad disappointed not see the next gen Nissan V8....I totally understand why Nissan is doing this from a money standpoint. This is a literal "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" move.
And I am not conceding that Nissan is lacking against the competition in any way other than interior quality....but sales matter. And the Titan offered BY FAR the fewest amount of options available to the buyers (no V6, manual, reg cab, long bed....until 2008.5, small V8 etc, no 3/4 ton or 1-ton version). And the sales reflect that.
The 2009 Ram seems like a neat truck, I sure hope it lives up to the hype! ;)

RE: I Track Tested a 2009 Ram...Not just for Dodge fans!

The 2009+ Dodge Ram rear suspension is a good bit different than your Expedition (or my Armada's) independent rear suspension (IRS). The Ram still has a solid axle, but coils and links instead of leafs to suspend it. ;)
Quote: "I'm extremely glad to see that the American brand Pickups are not, as they say, playing catch up to the Nissan/Toyota designs"
When it comes to trucks, the other brands are playing catch up to Ford, Chevy and Dodge.lol, now. :R It's all relative as to who has the newest truck out. Come on.

RE: Nissan Titan towing

Nice price! There's quite a few Titans here who tow. They are very capable (as good as the best equipped 1/2 tons from any brand).

I have also heard great things about POR-15. Although I would never spray anything over rust, without eliminating the rust first.

RE: trans flush

Some manufacturers are now NOT recommending power flushes. Honda, and Nissan are the 2 I know of. They recommend drains-and-fills using their proprietary fluids.

RE: Titan towing capacity

I appreciate the people towing with a Titan that use turnouts, so I can pass them.Us Nissan drivers do tend to be quite courteous. Not that I personally have ever held up traffic. :R
Somehow the lowly 385 ft/lbs of torque manage to get the job done.

RE: 2009 XFE GM pickups (Xtra Fuel Economy)

I am not trying to down play the significance of a full size truck that gets 15/21 mpg using the EPA ratings, however this is GM's attempt at moving more trucks. And it's going to help their CAFE standing too.
At least not all their 1500 trucks are equipped like this. Making it an option I guess is a good thing.....let the consumer decide.
Also, I'm sure GM would rather you notice a 7% increase in fuel economy, and not notice the "only 1 mpg" difference. ;)

RE: HHO/hydrogen generator sys

I belong to no less than 8 automotive forums that I visit with regularity (I know, I am a nerd). Anyway....not ONE single person who is a regular trusted member of any of the forums has gotten results anywhere near the claims of 25-50% mpg improvement. The claims of people getting 38 mpg in their 460 V8 Ford truck are out there, but these are simply LIES that someone made up. I challenge anyone to find a respected member of what-ever forum they belong, to claim these systems are anything more than snake-oil (based on their own installation in their own personal vehicle).

RE: USA Today: Chrysler hybrids near front of pack

The costs will come down, and the price difference is not 20K based on new prices on the Tahoe. The difference is around 8K for a comparably equipped model (per carsdirect.com), I will give you that, and that buys a LOT of gas.
I think what some forget, is the LESS gas we all use, the better off we all are.Thank you for pointing that out. GM is dumb I think for only putting the Hybrid system in fully loaded Tahoes.....but since they did, it's only fair to compare to similarly loaded Tahoes.
Also, not that I've seen actually that much brand bashing.....but I want to point out that GM, Chrysler, and BMW combined efforts on the 2-mode hybrid system. Not sure if everyone knew that.

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

That makes sense! Then you Tundra guys do feel my pain! lol
I had to buy new tires to replace my crappy Continental ContiTracs...but I stayed with P tires again. My new ones have a load rating of 116 vs the factory 114 however.

Be happy you have 17" wheels. Those of us with 18" wish we has many choices as the 17" crowd! ;)
I think 16" wheels won't work because the brakes are too large in diameter just FYI.

RE: Honda Ridgeline...........

CRX? Are you sure about that? ;)
Ridgelines seem to be good at what they're designed to do. I owned an Acura MDX, and it, like the Ridgeline is based on the Odyssey minivan......and it was a great "SUV". It just could tow what I needed it to tow! :)

RE: Really good buys on Tow Vehicles

Huge discounts like those are great if one is in that area. They tend to be highly localized. But for the record, Nissan is offering $5,000 cash back nationally.......and then of course depending on location the dealership will take even more money off of sticker.
Some Nissan dealerships are offering a "free" Versa with purchase of a Titan! ;)
Conversely, be wary of the dealerships (not just Nissan) that offer super-low ball trade-in offers to help offset their hit on the new vehicle.

RE: Mixing "P" and "LT" Tires

I know the proper answer is do not do it. And I would do it today.
But, back in the day (1994) I was in high school, dumb and young. I had an old 1967 Dodge Polara that had 3 different sized tires on it, two of which were bias-ply tires. I had that thing up to 85+ mph on the way to concert with 3 friends inside (actually one is my wife now!). It was a dumb move, and luckily nothing happened........but it could have.
If money is really tight you probably could do it without problems....but I would not tow with the mismatched (P-LT) setup.

RE: Tahoe vs. Expedition

I recently drove an Expedition 5.4 6AT and a Suburban 5.3 4AT....and of course here's my wildcard for you, I own a Nissan Armada.
I liked the Suburban (yes, it's basically a longer Tahoe) over the Expedition. I was really excited to try Ford's 6AT, but I was a tad disappointed. I like the Expo's IRS rear better than the Chevy's rear. But the steering felt better in the Chevrolet. I was surprised by the Chevy's mpg numbers...pretty high for the way I drove. I say, check 'em both out, neither one "sucks". But you might want to check out the Nissan Armada too if there's a dealership nearby.

RE: Ants

Terro is amazing stuff! If they are already there, that's what I'd use. If you're preventing them from getting in....I love the ant powder. I'd use it liberally around every tire (360*), and every jacking point (360*), and anywhere else the motorhome comes in contact with the ground. Ensure there's no other path for the ants to get in. Luckily My TT hasn't been hit, but the ants love my boat. Even after the powder, huge chutes of crab grass provided the little devils a way into my boat!

RE: Continental Tire Class Action Suit

Well it's too damn bad they didn't include another crappy tire......the ContiTrac (particularly the 265/70/18). I just literally replaced my OEM tires at 26k miles....they were at the wear bars. But they did have perfectly even wear, though that's more "good on" my Armada than the tires themselves.
The Armada came with Continentals?? Did you get it used? All I have ever seen on Armadas/Titans are Goodyear SR-A's. Not that they are any better.Nope, bought it brand new. I think the only Armadas that came with Goodyears were the 17" wheeled Off-Road SE models. Other wise, I'd say 90% or more Armadas have ConitTracs (unfortunately)
